This website is a fascinating piece of social history, albeit Yankee social history. Look up your own name to see when it was most popular in the US, and where it's placed now. 'Jane' has never been really up there with the top names, but at least it's done better than my grandson Felix whose name is currently 1000th on the popularity list.

oooh my name is not that popular! xx
The name Jane was never popular in the U.S. because of the old saying: "Plain Jane". Parents didn't want their daughters to have that stigma.
As far as the name Felix goes, perhaps baby-boomer generation parents didn't want to stick their sons with the stigma of "Felix The Cat" which was a childrens T.V. cartoon from the 1960's.
